And He took a cup, and when He had given thanks He gave it to them, saying,"Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."Reading the story of the last supper, the night of prayer, arrest, trials, torture, mockery, crucifixion, and death detailed in every Gospel, I begin to feel the weight of the sacrifice that paid for my crimes. He said there is no greater love than one that would die for friends, and I know He died for me. Ergo, I am His friend.He has had friends before who betrayed Him, who denied Him, who abandoned Him. He made provision for them--and for me--first by instructing them to drink from His cup, and then by filling it. With His blood. With His forgiveness. The life is in the blood. And that is what He gave. Life.
